Their Story Information
Alexander Brown’s file was only 21 pages. His pension does have a lot of valuable family and community information which was complemented by other soldiers’ pension records , vital records and Freedmen’s Bureau records, as well. The purpose for Alex’s pension record was to provide proof he was an invalid and unable to support himself and/or his family. Alex successfully provided proof that he was unable to provide for himself and family due to having heart disease and rheumatism. Alex placed his application Feb 6, 1891 and was able to receive Invalid Pension. At his death, he was receiving $12 a month in pension
